Four Museum Stores, Zero Name Recognition: How BằNG’s Lớp Dreamy Scored a Perfect 10

And if you ask ten friends whether they have heard of BằNG, the answer is almost certainly no.
That gap between institutional validation and public obscurity is what our WOW dimension measures. The BằNG Lớp Dreamy Small Rectangle scored a perfect 10.
What WOW Measures and Why BằNG Maxed It
WOW accounts for 35% of the SleekNova Score. It captures uniqueness, discovery factor, and the depth of a product’s provenance. A perfect 10 requires three conditions: the product must be genuinely difficult to find through conventional gift shopping, the story behind it must hold up under verification, and institutional credibility must back the claims.
BằNG met all three.
Thomas Binh-Minh Vincent is a French designer based in Ho Chi Minh City. He co-founded BằNG in 2021 as a Vietnamese furniture and lighting brand. The studio designs and manufactures everything in-house, minimizing outsourcing.
The Lớp collection, whose name means “layers” in Vietnamese, earned an Archiproducts Design Award in 2023, a German Design Award in 2025, a Prize Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum in 2024, and a Core77 Design Award Pro Runner-Up in 2024. That is four verified awards from the brand’s product page, and press sources confirm a fifth.
The Dreamy finish is the newest addition. It uses dichroic acrylic inspired by a rare iridescent sky Vincent observed over Saigon one afternoon. Nine acrylic sheets, separated by polished inox spacers, surround a matte opal glass sphere. Plug it in and the dichroic layers refract 3000K warm white light into soft rainbow shadows across nearby surfaces.
Designboom described the result as producing “soft, rainbow toned shadows that extend beyond the object itself, giving the lamp an almost immaterial quality.”
The Verification Stack
We traced the claims. MoMA Design Store lists the Lớp as “Layers Table Lamp, Iridescent” with the description: “Mesmerizing and futuristic, the Layers Table Lamp brings moody light and color into your space.” Centre Pompidou’s retail partner Boutiques de Musees carries the collection. The brand page confirms UL 153 certification for US and Canadian safety standards, a 2-year warranty, and repair kits for long-term ownership. The E26 G45 LED warm white bulb is included and replaceable.
Across 16 MoMA Design Store reviews, the lamp holds 4.8 stars. Reviewers consistently praise the design impact, build quality, and packaging. Two independent review platforms flagged the same practical note: the included bulb is brighter than product photos suggest. Several owners swapped to a lower-wattage bulb for a mellower ambient glow. The bulb is standard E26, so replacement is straightforward.
BằNG does not yet offer a dimmable option.
Why This Matters for Gift Givers
The WOW score does not measure whether a product is beautiful. GLOW handles that (the Dreamy scored 9 there). WOW measures whether the recipient will encounter something they could not have predicted, backed by credentials they can verify after the fact.
BằNG sits in a rare position: validated enough to eliminate risk, unknown enough to generate genuine surprise.
For husbands shopping for a wife who treats her space as a statement, the Dreamy fills a gap between functional lighting and decorative art. Gift-ready packaging arrives with an artwork print, a keychain, and white cotton gloves for handling. Assembly is intuitive: polished inox spacers hold dichroic sheets around the opal sphere.

Unplugged, the Dreamy has a second function most buyers discover after purchase. Daylight passing through the dichroic layers refracts into faint rainbow patterns on adjacent surfaces without electricity. That hidden feature, combined with the museum pedigree and the Saigon origin story, gives the recipient material that deepens over time.

The Score in Context
The final SleekNova Score landed at 9. GLOW contributed 9 out of 10 for iridescent dichroic acrylic that shifts with viewing angle and photographs from every side. MOMENT contributed 9 out of 10 for the gallery-level unboxing and the first-illumination reveal.
Trust landed at 6.5, reflecting a confidence score of 65 out of 100. The 16 MoMA reviews and 4.8-star average are genuine, with critical feedback about bulb brightness lending authenticity. The confidence score would climb with broader retail review coverage, but the museum validation and five awards provide substantial independent verification.
At $455, comparable designer lamps with fewer museum placements run $800 to $2,000. The 2-year warranty, repair kits, and replaceable bulb confirm this was designed for permanence.
For a housewarming where every guest brings wine, or a birthday for someone who collects Scandinavian and Japanese design but has nothing from Vietnam, the Dreamy occupies a space no other lamp in our database currently fills.
