The announcement came from Queens, NY, where the company is based. We confirmed the date, the product, and the partnership structure through press coverage.

The Bon Appétit Test Kitchen collaboration appears on the official Burlap & Barrel site with specific language: four blends developed together. Multiple press sources reference this partnership independently. The Kitchn, in November 2025, described the company as stocking their editors’ pantries and called them “best of the best.”

The Jane Goodall Institute partnership includes a verifiable commitment: 5% of honey sales support JGI’s conservation work in Western Tanzania. This appeared on the Jane Goodall Institute’s own website, not just brand marketing materials.

The Farmer Payment Claims

Burlap & Barrel states they pay partner farmers 2-10x the commodity price. This claim appears on their official site with consistent language across multiple pages.

What we could not independently verify is the exact multiplier for each farmer relationship, as that would require access to invoices. What we could verify: the company is a registered Public Benefit Corporation, a legal structure that requires balancing profit with public benefit.

Bloomberg reported in 2019 that chefs from Eleven Madison Park and Blue Hill were ordering from them, suggesting the quality claims have professional validation.

The Review Data

Amazon shows 188 verified purchase reviews with a 4.7 star average. We checked the review distribution: 86% are 5-star ratings. Customer photos exist. The brand site shows 246 reviews via Judge.me with a 4.9 average.

One gap in the data: Trustpilot shows only 2 reviews. The brand claims 13,000+ reviews, but that figure is aggregate across all products and platforms, not specific to this collection. We noted this in our scoring.

What We Could Not Verify

The arrest line on the product page mentions The Bear television show. The claim states these spices appeared in Carmy and Sydney’s home kitchens as a prop choice, not product placement. We could not independently verify this through press coverage or official confirmation.

The claim remains in the comparative note field but did not factor into our Trust score.
