Lateral Objects Gem Tumbler: Zero Reviews and a BoF 500 CV
Made the cut
Zero customer reviews exist for the Lateral Objects Gem Tumbler Set. We checked the brand site, Amazon, Trustpilot, Reddit, SSENSE, The Modern Shop, and Google. Nothing.
For a set of hand-blown Polish glass tumblers priced at $120, designed by a BoF 500 Creative Class member, that silence demanded a different kind of trust case.
We scored it anyway. The Gem Tumbler Set earned 8.1 on the SleekNova Score. This Lab Note explains how.
The Career Behind a $30 Glass
Stefan Beckman is a BoF 500 Creative Class member. He has designed sets for Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Fendi, Balenciaga, and Alexander McQueen. He is represented by Exposure NY.
His editorial portfolio includes shoots for Vanity Fair, GQ, and Vogue. He collaborated with Nicolas Ghesquiere on the Louis Vuitton cruise collection show at the TWA Flight Center at JFK.
He trained in film and theatre at the University of Texas. From 1999 to 2006, he ran Property, a Soho furniture and design store. In 2019, he launched Lateral Objects as a design lab from Stefan Beckman Studio.
The design draws from 1960s California pop art and 1970s supergraphics. In his own words: “I love 70s Supergraphics and the pop colors of California art of the 60s. That’s been the spirit.”
That resume produced a WOW score of 9 out of 10. When a designer’s credential list spans Gagosian exhibitions, Marc Jacobs sets, and LVMH commissions, and his home line sells hand-blown tumblers for $30 each, the gap between reputation and recognition is enormous.
Almost nobody outside the fashion industry knows this line exists.
What We Verified About the Glass
The Gem Tumbler Set is hand-blown and color tinted, made in Poland. Each set contains four glasses measuring 4 by 3 inches. Three colors: Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald. Each named after a precious stone. The set costs $120.
GLOW scored 9 out of 10. Gem-saturated color in hand-blown glass produces visual density that separates these from anything machine-made on contact.
The pop art palette, traced directly to Beckman’s stated California-and-supergraphics philosophy, reads as intentional on a bar cart or dinner table. This is not color applied for decoration. It is color as design position.
Trust at 4.5: What Zero Reviews Mean
This is the number that demands transparency. The Gem Tumbler Set scored 4.5 out of 10 for Trust.
On a methodology where Trust accounts for 15% of the final score, that dragged the overall number down from what GLOW, WOW, and MOMENT would have produced alone.
We searched exhaustively. Brand site. Amazon. Trustpilot. Reddit. SSENSE product pages. The Modern Shop product pages. Google. Zero product-specific reviews exist anywhere. The review source tier is “none.” Our confidence score is 45%, labeled “limited.”
So what did we find instead? Designer credentials verified against independent sources. Beckman’s BoF 500 membership confirmed through Business of Fashion. Representation by Exposure NY confirmed through their published roster.
Retail distribution confirmed: The Modern Shop stocks the Gem Tumbler alongside HAY and Muuto. SSENSE has listed the brand as a designer. Barneys hosted the Heatwave pop-up that Beckman created with Lateral Objects.
Our confidence breakdown: 15 points for source quality, 15 for platform integrity, 10 for temporal consistency, 5 for claim verification, 0 for source diversity. The sources we verified are authoritative. The gap is that no consumer has confirmed the product experience independently.
We published it because the designer’s credential chain is verifiable and the stockist quality is high. A BoF 500 member carried by The Modern Shop, historically by SSENSE, and introduced through a Barneys pop-up is not an unknown quantity.
The trust score reflects the evidence we found, not the evidence we wished existed.
Who Gets the Gem Tumbler Set
The primary match is a gift for a friend who treats their bar cart like a gallery wall. Hosts who want tumblers that generate questions.
Recipients who respond to bold color with substance behind it and will search the designer on their own. Anyone in the design world who follows SSENSE or The Modern Shop but has not connected Beckman’s fashion career to his home line.
MOMENT scored 8 out of 10. Four jewel-colored tumblers land as an instant bar cart statement. The Beckman story is what turns an attractive glass into a conversation.
The gift works on two timelines: the immediate visual impact of gem-saturated color, and the delayed discovery when the recipient searches the designer and finds Marc Jacobs, Gagosian, and Louis Vuitton on the other end.
Skip this for someone who requires customer reviews before buying, because none exist. Skip for anyone who needs dishwasher-safe glasses or finds saturated color too bold.
This is barware for people who bring intention to every shelf, not utility to every drawer.
The Final Score: 8.1
GLOW 9, weighted at 25%. WOW 9, weighted at 35%. MOMENT 8, weighted at 25%. TRUST 4.5, weighted at 15%. The calculation: (9 x 0.25) + (9 x 0.35) + (8 x 0.25) + (4.5 x 0.15) = 2.25 + 3.15 + 2.0 + 0.675 = 8.075, rounded to 8.1.
The trust score is the honest cost of zero reviews. Every other dimension performed at or near the top of our range.
Hand-blown Polish glass in gem-saturated color from a BoF 500 designer whose runway sets last hours, sold at $30 per tumbler.
The Lateral Objects Gem Tumbler Set cleared our threshold. The reviews have not yet appeared to confirm it from the consumer side. We documented both realities and let the score speak for itself.
