Diebenkorn’s Studio, Fifteen Stockists, and a Review Count of Zero
Shawn Kam throws these in a building that housed canneries, later Diebenkorn's studio. Fifteen shops carry his work and no customer has reviewed it.
Did not pass
Shawn Kam learned to throw clay as a teenager in Maine, apprenticing under a potter who reproduced 17th-century colonial American earthenware.
He studied painting at California College of Arts, spent four years back at the wheel, then founded Luvhaus in 2012. His studio sits in a West Oakland building that housed canneries in the 1800s and later became Richard Diebenkorn’s painting studio.
We wanted to recommend his Aubade Demitasse.
We could not.
What We Found
The credentials are real. Fifteen brick-and-mortar retailers carry Luvhaus ceramics, from Sabah in San Francisco and New York to Beam & Anchor in Portland, Coast in Big Sur, and Broome Street General Store in Los Angeles.
Huckberry listed the brand with a full editorial description. Frances May in Portland, which stocks Maison Margiela and Our Legacy alongside independent makers, carries the line. Luvhaus also sells wholesale through Faire with a $300 minimum order.
The Aubade glaze is a luminous satin-finish purple with lilac highlights and Prussian blue undertones. Each piece is hand-thrown from high fire stoneware, dishwasher and microwave safe, with glazes custom formulated in the studio. The demitasse holds 3 to 4 ounces at 2.5 inches across. It costs $38.
Rare Device, a San Francisco design shop, published a detailed interview with Kam in 2018 and called Luvhaus “a longtime favorite” of their staff. Diablo Magazine profiled the studio, quoting Kam’s ambition to create “timeless pieces that will live through multiple generations.”
The brand’s name comes from the Bauhaus school: Luv plus Haus, meaning love house.
Where It Stopped
Zero customer reviews. On any platform.
Luvhaus does not sell on Amazon or Etsy. The brand’s Shopify site has no review widget. Huckberry’s Luvhaus page shows products currently unavailable. We searched Trustpilot, Reddit, and Google for any customer feedback.
Nothing.
Fourteen thousand Instagram followers, fifteen retailers, editorial coverage from two publications, and not a single verifiable customer review anywhere online.
Our system scored confidence at 25 out of 100. The Brand Trust Protocol added 15 points for meeting all four criteria: brand age over five years, premium retail presence, editorial press, and products carried by reviewed outlets. Without those 15 points, the raw confidence score would have been 10.
Trust score: 2.5 out of 10. The floor is 4.0. Final SleekNova Score: 7.175. The threshold is 8.0.
What Would Change
Verified customer reviews on any major platform would shift the confidence score meaningfully. A review section integrated into the brand’s own Shopify store would provide the baseline evidence our system needs.
The product, the craft, and the retail validation are already there. The missing piece is the voice of someone who has actually used one.
We will keep watching. The studio, the story, and the retail network suggest this is exactly the kind of maker SleekNova exists to surface.
Right now, the math says wait.
