Seven Times in Elle Decor. Still Zero Reviews.

Second product we have judged from this studio, and the same missing evidence decided both.

Did not pass

We have now evaluated two R+D.LAB products. The first was the Rosetta Martini Glass, a Michelin-starred chef collaboration inspired by Pompeii. It scored 7.83 and missed by seventeen hundredths.

This time we looked at something simpler: an olive oil bottle shaped like the stone farmhouses of southern Italy.

It scored lower.

The reason is the same both times. Not a single person on the public internet has described the experience of owning an R+D.LAB product.

The Press Record

R+D.LAB’s press page lists sixteen editorial features. Seven are from Elle Decor, spanning January 2021 through March 2026. Food & Wine covered them in November 2021. The Sunday Times Style featured them in February 2024. Design Milk and Milk Decoration both ran pieces in May 2024. Brutus, the Japanese culture magazine, published a feature in September 2021. Openhouse Magazine included them twice.

This is not a brand struggling for attention. Elle Decor does not feature the same studio seven times over five years by accident.

The Retail Record

We verified R+D.LAB’s presence at six retailers. Heath Ceramics in San Francisco stocks the Trulli Spice Mill at $160. Kneen and Co in Chicago lists the Trulli Short Bottle, marked down from $110 to $55, with one left in stock. Goop carries the brand, though currently only shows the Oran Blanket at $665. Garza Marfa in Texas stocks the Trulli Tall Bottle at $130 and the Short at $110. Rêve En Vert, a sustainable luxury retailer in London, lists nineteen R+D.LAB products. SSENSE maintains an active brand page but shows no current inventory.

None of these retailers display a customer review for any R+D.LAB product.

Heath has no review widget for the brand. Kneen’s page shows store-level service reviews only. The brand’s own Shopify site has no review system installed. We searched Amazon, Reddit, Trustpilot, and YouTube.

Nothing.

The Product

The Trulli Tall Bottle is a mouth-blown olive oil and vinegar vessel in Diamine Green borosilicate glass. It is priced at €122.95 on the brand’s site, approximately $130 at Garza Marfa.

Designer Tommaso Caldera drew the form from the trulli, the cone-roofed stone farmhouses that dot the olive orchards of Puglia. Each bottle comes with a cork spout and a hand-turned wooden lid. The glass itself is German borosilicate, the same material R+D.LAB uses across their line, sourced from the company that developed it in 1893.

Goop’s editorial team describes R+D.LAB’s production as “hand-blown in Italy by third-generation glassblowers.” We could not independently verify the generational claim beyond Goop’s description, so we attribute it to them.

Where It Landed

GLOW scored 9. The translucent green glass catches light in a way that turns a kitchen counter into a still life. The dome silhouette and wooden lid photograph as sculpture, not kitchenware.

WOW scored 8. Most people have never heard of R+D.LAB despite twenty years of operation and seven Elle Decor features. An olive oil bottle as a considered gift is unexpected enough. One shaped like Puglian architecture, with this level of editorial pedigree, qualifies as a genuine discovery.

MOMENT scored 8. The bottle lives on the counter. Every time the recipient reaches for olive oil, they use an object with a design lineage they can explain to dinner guests. The story has a long tail.

TRUST scored 3.5, derived from a confidence score of 35 out of 100. That is below the 4.0 floor. The Rosetta Martini Glass scored 4.5 on trust because we found one additional stockist and the Elena Reygadas collaboration carried slightly more verifiable weight. The Trulli Bottle, even with seven Elle Decor features and six verified retailers, could not clear the floor without any form of customer validation.

The final SleekNova Score: 7.58. The threshold is 8.0.

Two Products, Same Wall

R+D.LAB is now the only brand we have evaluated twice and rejected twice.

Both times, the product scored well on visual appeal, discovery factor, and gift-scene potential. Both times, trust fell short. The editorial world and the customer-review world operate as parallel systems for this brand, and our methodology requires evidence from both.

This is not a flaw in R+D.LAB’s products. It is a structural gap in how quiet-luxury DTC brands interact with the review ecosystem. When a brand sells through retailers who do not enable product reviews, and operates its own site without a review widget, customer sentiment has nowhere to accumulate.

The product may be extraordinary. We cannot measure what does not exist.

What Would Change

Customer reviews on any platform would shift the confidence score. The editorial foundation is already stronger than most products in our database. A review layer, even a modest one, would provide the missing signal.

Our system needs both editorial validation and customer experience data. R+D.LAB has one of the two in abundance.
