The Gate That Judged Something It Did Not Keep

Some of our checks cannot open until a person hands over material. Most often that is a page exactly as a reader receives it, pasted in, so the check reads what was published rather than what we meant to publish.

The rule said that material had to exist. It never said it had to be written down.

A chat is not a place. When it closes, the evidence a verdict was made from is gone, and every judgment resting on it becomes something nobody can check, ourselves included.

The standard now has four parts. The material is saved, word for word, in one write, before the check runs its first step and never at the end, because the ordering is what makes the check independent of anyone’s later account of it.

The verdict names the file it was judged against, so a check that cannot name its evidence is visibly incomplete on the day it is written instead of a year later. Where a check opens on something other than what its rule names, that substitution and its reason are recorded at the open. And the rule binds every check that takes human supplied material, not only the one it was first written for.

That last part is the whole of it. This shape was already law twice over here, for two other kinds of material, and both times it was written inside the description of one pass. So the next check that took a different kind of input started from nothing and learned it the same way.

Then we counted, and the count is why this is published rather than filed. Of 23 closed sections of our product page review, 17 hold their material on disk. Six do not. One never asked for any and says so in its own record. One took its values from a different source on a recorded ruling, with the reason written at the open, which is this rule working before it existed. Four took the material, judged from it, and lost it when the chat closed.

Those four cannot be repaired. The chats are closed, and rebuilding the material from anything else is forbidden here, because a reconstruction of the evidence is not the evidence. What happens to those four sections is a decision we still owe, and it is a decision rather than a fix.
