What We Found
Ryan Popoff started Popov Leather in 2013. He studied fine arts at the University of Victoria, then sat down at his dining room table and started making wallets.
According to Shopify Masters, which featured his story on their podcast, that dining room became a workshop in Nelson, BC, with a team of twelve artisans and more than 100,000 orders shipped.
The Front Pocket Wallet uses Horween Chromexcel leather from Chicago, one of the most respected full-grain leathers in the industry. It is hand saddle-stitched with Ritza 25 Tiger thread from Germany.
It holds five to twelve cards plus folded cash in a profile thinner than a quarter inch. Popov guarantees the stitching for life.
We verified 580 product-specific reviews on the brand site, averaging 4.9 stars with Shopify “Verified” and “Verified by Shop” badges. The oldest review dates to 2015. The newest appeared six days before our evaluation.
BestLeather.org published a dedicated editorial review of this specific wallet. The Modest Man did the same. On Drop.com, five verified buyers gave it a perfect 5.0, and 114 community discussions mentioned it.
One buyer on Drop.com reported seven years of daily carry.

Why We Wanted This
Our leather and travel category has six products. We were looking for a wallet with verifiable craftsmanship, a real maker story, and the kind of review depth that makes trust scoring straightforward.
Popov delivered all three.
The eleven-year review span alone is unusual. Most products we evaluate have two or three years of customer data at best.
The negative reviews helped, too. Customers noted scratching on the Natural color option and size running larger than some ultra-minimalist alternatives.
When we see documented criticisms alongside a 4.9 average, it signals organic review behavior rather than curation.
Where It Stopped
Our scoring formula weights four pillars: visual and material quality (25%), discovery factor (35%), experiential potential (25%), and trust (15%).
Popov scored 8.75 on material quality and 9.0 on trust. Those are exceptional numbers.
But the discovery pillar, which carries the heaviest weight in our formula at 35%, scored 7.0.
A leather wallet is familiar territory. The Horween leather is genuinely premium. The saddle stitching is genuinely handmade. The Nelson workshop is genuinely small-batch.

A wallet that introduced an unfamiliar material, an unexpected construction method, or a format that challenged how people think about carrying cards would score differently on that pillar.
Whether that describes this product’s future direction is not ours to say.
