A product page on this site argued that a fountain pen’s balance leans gently toward the paper because the maker built the front weight in on purpose. Two sources sat behind that sentence. The maker’s own page describes comfortable body balancing. An owner wrote that the front weight makes it a very good writer. Neither of them says the front weight is deliberate. The word joining them was ours.

Worse, the record we had already gathered held the other side. A second owner, in the same thread, called the balance a flaw and said the weight bugged him. Our own evidence file labels the first owner a counter-voice, which means the writing pass knew the point was contested and the page reported it settled.

The same page carried a second invented join. It described the gold nib as a metal chosen for decades of flexing. No source we hold says this nib flexes, and the frequently asked questions further down the same page teach the opposite: the nib has a finicky sweet spot and rewards a settled angle. A reader who scrolled met both sentences.

A third was smaller and the same species. The page said retailers introduce the pen with one word, flagship. Our record holds one retailer saying it, alongside an encyclopedia and a press piece. The claim is corroborated four ways over; the plural was not.

What makes these worth publishing is what passed. Every fact on that page traced to a source. Every quotation was verbatim. Every number was locked. The gates we run check whether a statement is grounded, and all three of these sentences were built from grounded material. What none of them checked was the connective tissue: a because, a mechanism, a plural. Grounding a page fact by fact leaves the words between the facts unexamined, and those words are where a claim quietly becomes ours.

All three sentences are rewritten. The maker’s description stays, the owner’s defence stays and stays an owner’s, and the flagship standing stays with the attribution the evidence actually supports. The catch came from a section by section reading of that page against its own evidence files, one room at a time, with a human approving each ruling before anything shipped. It was not caught by any instrument, because no instrument we run reads for the word between two facts. That is the part we are keeping.
