Three Records Were on the Wrong Shelf
Three Lab records whose subject is our own pipeline sat under Deep Dives, the shelf for published research. Two are now System Updates, one a Decision Log. No URL changed.
Three records on this site were filed as research and are not research. Our Lab keeps five shelves. Deep Dives is the one that holds published research: a study read closely, cited, and connected to the products it bears on. Three records sitting on that shelf were about us instead.
“58 Minutes on a Product That Didn’t Make It” is the unedited transcript of one evaluation, published so anyone can watch our process run. “This Product Scored 9.1. Here’s Why It’s Not on SleekNova.” is the same idea from the other direction: a watch that cleared every gate and is still not here. Both are records of how this system works, so both now sit on System Updates, with the other records that explain us.
“We Scored This Product Twice. The Second Score Was Lower.” is a third thing again. It is a rule of ours changing: we rebuilt our verification, re-scored a wall hook we had already published, and the number went down. That is what the Decision Logs shelf is for, and that is where it now is.
Nothing moved address. All five Lab shelves share one path, so every one of the three keeps the URL it has always had, and every link to them still lands where it did. What changed is which shelf lists them, and what the shelf’s own count says.
Deep Dives now says 63, and 63 is the true number. It said 66. The count is read live from the shelf, so it corrected itself the moment the records moved; nobody typed it.
One record we expected to move did not. “The Review Economy’s Blind Spot” was on the same list, because it cites no outside paper. Reading it rather than counting its fields changed the answer: it is original research into why the review economy fails design goods, and our own 141 rejections are the evidence it rests on. We are the dataset there, not the subject. It is a Deep Dive and it stays one.
Why this was worth doing rather than tidying. A shelf that means two things cannot carry a rule. We are about to make the visualization fields belong to Deep Dives specifically, and a rule keyed on that shelf is only honest if the shelf holds only Deep Dives.
